support systems
-
I start by getting into a comfortable position. I take a deep breath. I notice my breath, each inhale brings me calmness and each exhale brings me rest. I release any tension I am holding as I exhale. I ask God’s presence to be with me during this Examen. I wait for his presence and rest.

I thank God for my body. I thank him for my feet that carry me and my baby everywhere, my knees that bear the weight of my pregnant body. I thank him for my back that is working hard. I thank him for my body that nourishes my baby.
I also think of the people who are around me who provide me with encouragement and support. I think of people both near and far from me. Maybe it was the stranger who opened a door for me today, or my loving partner who has been a pillar of strength throughout my pregnancy. -
I think about the support systems around me. I reflect on my relationship with God. Have I spent quality time with God or have I been neglectful? Do I feel close to God or distant? I speak with God about our relationship and ask him to reveal his perspective on our relationship.
I talk to God about my relationship with others who support me. How has my disposition been around them? Grateful? Dismissive? Friendly? Passive? Grumpy? Thankful?
I ask God to restore my relationships. I speak to God about them and ask him to show me His thoughts.
I lift each relationship up to the Lord. I thank him for the conversations I can have with him. I ask him to repair relationships that have gone bad during this pregnancy and I thank him for the relationships that have strengthened.
I ask for forgiveness if I have hurt someone even if it was unintentionally. I ask God to show me what he wants me to do tomorrow. -
I thank God for His support I meditate on His word:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10 NIV)
I close my usual way.
