a new family

  • I quiet my mind and relax my body. I invite God’s presence to lead this prayer time. I take a moment to mindfully dwell in His presence.

  • I spend some time thinking of the blessings he has given me today, big and small. I thank Him for all that I have received. I thank him for my new family.

  • I review my day. I ask God to reveal my desires for this new family. What are my greatest desires at this moment? I look to the future. What are my hopes for this family?

I take note of my emotions and thoughts surrounding these questions. I dig deeper and make aware any negative feelings I may have - I simply name and acknowledge these emotions as I hand them over to God.

I let go of my fears and release any control that I might be holding onto about myself or my new family. I lay them at His feet.

I ask God to make known how he would like to shape and mold this family.

  • I ask God for his grace and strength. I reflect on today and areas I could have been more grateful or patient. I ask God for forgiveness, advice and guidance as I enter into this new stage of life. I ask him what he wants me to work on tomorrow and I ask God to take the lead.

  • I spend some time committing my new family to the Lord.

  • I close by saying: “Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:6 NIV)
